Phil Simms is a former American football player who has played in the National Football League (NFL). He had played at the top draw for last 14 years without a break. He played in all different matches and at all various levels for New York Giants. Simms retired from the game as a player in 1993. Presently he is working as sports reporter for various TV channels including CBS network. After his retirement from the game, he joined ESPN in 1994 and started working as co-host where he covered Super Bowl XXX and Super Bowl XXXII which are most interesting and he is also part of CDS’s broadcast team.
Career:
Phillip Martin Simms started playing football since his school days and continued to play during college and university. Later he was trained by the legend Bryan Evans as his coach. He got few opportunities at the beginning to play in sports tournaments. He was good for his offensive skills and his control over the ball. He was tall person and a strong character on the field and became a famous for his outstanding skills and playing techniques.
Phil Simms joined Morehead State University to get the degree and started playing college level football. The new coach of San Francisco Bill Walsh flew to Morehead with his assistant to sign Simms for the third round draft. Surprisingly he signed the contract with New York Giants in the first round of the draft.
Simms played almost all 5 matches in of first season for New York Giants. He was consistence performer who had always given his best. He had also suffered from horrific knee and ligament injuries which forced him to opt out of the game few times. The strongly built Phil Simms always fought back and gave his best when the chips were down. He had won most valuable player of year award in year 1985, when he led the Giants for 10 consecutive victories in the whole season. Even he was named as the most valuable player of Super Bowl XXI when his team won the game by 39-20. After his shoulder operation in 1993, he decided to hang his shoes. And his 14 years of long association with the football and especially with the Giants came to the end.
