An audition was held in Mumbai for the movie and it is known that almost 200 kids participated in the audition. He was selected from the whole crowd to work in a movie after the auditions. The movie he worked in was Lion and the auditions were held almost 18 months ago. He played the role of Saroo Brierley and his character. In the movie, Sunny was left stranded on a train which took him to Kolkata and later in Kolkata, an Australian couple adopted him. He also worked in Love Sonia which is set for release in 2017.
