Sri Devi Kapoor, was an India actress famous for her performance in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam Film Industry. She was a well-noted actress who has performed along with many leading actors in all the film industry. She was also considered as the first ‘Female Superstar’, for her beauty and performance. She was also a recipient of five filmfare awards and government has honored her with ‘Padma Shri’ award as well. She was married to Boney Kapoor, a Hindi film Producer and had two children with him. She passed away on February 24, 2018 in Dubai, where she went to attend a relative’s wedding.

Born as Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan in Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu, she started her acting career when she was four years old, with a tamil movie named, ‘Thunaivan’. Following this, she made her debut in Telugu and Malayalam film industry, as child artist. Her performance in the Malayalam film ‘Poompatta’ won her ‘Kerala State film Award for Best Child Artist’. Following this, she has acted in many movies as child actor.

She started her acting career as a leading actress in the Tamil movie, ‘Moondru Mudichu’, directed by the late director K.Balachander. Following these, she got many opportunities to play remarkable roles in movies like Gayathri, 16 Vayathinile, Meendum Kokila, Johnny, Moondram Pirai, etc. With her remarkable performance she won Best Actress Award for movies ‘Meendum Kokila and Moondram Pirai’, in Filmfare festival. She has acted in many Telugu films namelyKonda Veeti Simham, Kshana Kshanam, etc. She has won Nandi Award and Filmfare award as Best female Lead actress.

She made her debut in the Hindi film industry with the movie ‘Solva Sawan’, in the year 1979. However, her movie with Jeetendra, ‘Himmatwala’ became the biggest box office hit and following this, she had gained many notable roles in Hindi, as well. Her performance in the movies like Sadma, English Vinglish, etc gained her more popularity in Hindi Film Industry. Nagina, which is based on a Shape-shifting snake played by Sridevi, was a biggest box office hit, during that time. She has also appeared in small screen with a sitcom ‘Malini Iyer’. She is considered to be one of the evergreen stars of all time.
Death:
She went to Dubai to attend a relative wedding on February 24, 2018, however, that became the last function that she attended. She suffered a cardiac arrest in the hotel and was seen collapsed in the bathroom. When she was taken to the hospital, she was confirmed dead by the doctors. This untimely death of the actress has come as quite a shock to all her fans across the globe.
