Sakshi Malik, is an Indian freestyle wrestler and a bronze medalist. She has secured a bronze medal in 2016 summer Olympics under 58 kg category. She is the first female wrestler to win a medal in Olympics and fourth female medalist from our country. She is part of the JSW Sports Excellence program along with Vinesh Phogat, Babita Kumari and Geeta Phogat.
Career:
Career:She began her career in the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, she won her quarter finals, and however she finally lost to ‘Petra Olli’ from Finland. In 2015, she participated in the Asian Championship held at Doha, Qatar, under 60 kg. In this competition, she was able to secure a bronze medal, beating Ayaulym Kassymova of Kazakhstan.
In 2016, she qualified for Rio Olympics, defeating Zhang Lan from China in the Olympic World Qualifying Tournament. At Olympics, she defeated the Asian Champion Aisuluu Tynybekova and won a bronze medal for our country. She became the India’s first female wrestler to secure a medal in Olympics. In 2017, she represented ‘Colors Delhi Sultans’ in the second edition of Pro Wrestling League. Including this, she has also featured in the Women’s day campaign called ‘EveryWomanStrong’ sponsored by JSW group.
