Papon, is a multi-talented Indian Singer, who is also a Composer and a Record Producer from Assam. His birth name is Angarag Mahanta, who is popularly known by his stage name Papon. He is the founder of the Folk-fusion band named as Papon and also a lead singer in the band. He is also a founder of The East India Company. His parents are also singers from Assam and he spent most of his childhood in Assam.
Papon’s vocal training started in his early days in the Classical and Folk genres. He has also been trained in playing Khol, tabla, Guitar and Harmonium. He released his first Assamese album in the year 2004 named, ‘Jonaaki Raati’ and his first Hindi album was named as ‘The Story So far’, which was released in the year 2012. Including this, he has also sung many Hindi songs like Title song of Inkaar, Jiyein Kyun from Dum Maaro Dum, Sun le re and Khudse from Madras Cafe, Bulleya from Sultan and Labon Ka karobar from the movie Befikre. He recorded his first hit song in the movie ‘Barfi!’ named ‘Kyon’.
In addition to this, he has made his small screen appearance as a judge in a Singing Reality competition, ‘The Voice India Kids’. He has also started his band named ‘Papon’ and ‘The East India Company’, in the year 2007. He has also performed many stage shows in various part of the world. He has also received many awards like ‘Prag Cine Awards’, in the category of Best Male Singer.
