Lance Kerwin was an American actor who appeared in many television series and films particularly during the 1970s and 80s. He is most known for playing the lead role in the television series “James at 15” and appearing in movies such as “Salem’s Lot”, “Enemy Mines” and “Outbreak”. Kerwin died on 24th January 2023.
Early life
Lance Kerwin was born on 6th November 1960 in Newport, California to Don and Lois Kerwin. His father worked as an acting coach while his mother was a performer and talent agent. He was the youngest among his five brothers. The passion for acting was born in him from reading the scripts which his father used to provide him. Don and Lois Kerwin later divorced and Lance continued to stay with his mother and stepfather.
Career
Lance Kerwin’s acting career began in the early years of the 1970s with minor roles in television serials such as “Emergency”, “Little House on the Prairie”, “The Healers”, “Gunsmoke”, “Reflections of Murder”, “Wonder Women” and more. From the year 1974 to 1976, he appeared in five seasons of “ABC Afterschool Special” which was an educational show for the young audience.
Lance Kerwin got the lead role in the 1977 television movie “James at 15” in which he played the role of a professional photographer indulging in many adolescent adventures. The show ran for 21 episodes and turned Kerwin into an idol for the teenagers. The show eventually went off air due to certain issues with NBC’s censors.
In the year 1979, Lance Kerwin starred in the television adaptation of Stephen King’s novel “Salem’s Lot” as Mark Petrie who helps the protagonist in defeating the vampires who have taken over the city. He appeared in the 1985 science fiction movie “Enemy Mine” and the 1995 thriller “Outbreak”. Kerwin appeared in a number of other television series and movies throughout 1980s and 1990s. His last appearance on the screen was in the 2022 historical drama “The Wind and the Reckoning”.
Personal life
Lance Kerwin’s first wife was Kristen Lansdale with whom he had a daughter named Savanah Paige. His second wife is Yvonne Kerwin with whom he has four children, namely Justus, Fox, Terah and Kailani.
Lance Kerwin passed away on 24th January 2023 due to drug overdose as revealed by his autopsy report.
