Gauri Lankesh was an Indian Senior Journalist, who turned into social activist. She was residing in Bengaluru, Karnataka and worked as an Editor-in-chief of Lankesh Patrike, which is a Kannada weekly paper started by her father. Including this, she also ran her own weekly newspaper ‘Gauri Lankesh Patrike’. She was a well known Political commentator and a social reformer.
Career:
She started her career as a Journalist in The Times of India magazine, Bengaluru. Following this, she moved to Delhi along with her husband. She returned to Bengaluru, in a short while and started working as a correspondent in the Sunday magazine. Here she worked for nine years and soon after her father’s death, she chose to be the Editor-in-chief of her father’s weekly newspaper ‘Lankesh Patrike’. However, Gauri and her brother faced difference in opinions and he filed case against her sister.
She was considered to be a strong critic when it comes to politics, she was the critic of the right-wing of Hindutva. She openly criticised caste system in our country. On September 5, 2017, Gauri Lankesh was shot dead by unidentified three motor bikers in her house at Bengaluru. They fired seven bullets at her, when she entered her house by 8pm, after returning from her work.
