Ajay Tyagi, is the newly appointed Chairman of the market regulators, Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). He is the senior Indian Administrative Officer(IAS). In 1984 batch of IAS officer from Himachal Pradesh, he has handled capital markets division in the finance ministry.
Currently, Ajay Tyagi has been posted as the Additional Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, he is now taking over as the new SEBI chief. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Government, has appointed Ajay Tyagi as the new chairman for the next five years or he can serve till the age of 65, as per regulation. He is taking over as the ninth Chairman of SEBI following U.K.Sinha, who has completed his 6 year tenure. Ajay Tyagi is taking over the office at the age of 58.
With a tenure spanning for 6 years, U.K.Sinha was the longest serving Chairman of SEBI after D.R.Mehta, who has served for seven years. In addition to regulating stock exchanges, SEBI also supervises various kinds of market entities including brokers, mutual funds etc. Since Ajay Tyagi has lot of expertise in handling these capital markets, he is expected to perform well with his diverse experience.
